
Whirlpool Europe was unveiled as the Premier Sponsor of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour on March 11, 2004. The multi-million dollar, three-year partnership agreement will enhance Whirlpool's brand presence throughout Europe and includes the establishment of Habitat for Humanity International as the Tour's official European social cause. It aligns Whirlpool Europe with the Tour in innovative sponsorship capacities involving television, new media and community outreach.
Whirlpool Europe became the wholly owned subsidiary of Whirlpool Corporation in July 1991. This followed Whirlpool's purchase of the remaining share of its 1989 joint venture with N.V. Philips of the Netherlands. Now, with a presence throughout Europe, Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific, Whirlpool ranks as the third largest applicance producer in the region and the Whirlpool brand is number one across Europe.
